Synopsis:
This book teaches students about mechanical engineering design including three main topics: designing machines, designing materials and environmental systems. The chapters in this textbook present a variety of examples that come from the actual manufacturing industry including paper mills, helicopters and elevators. The problems in this textbook are also realistic and they present challenging situations where students need to use their knowledge to get the best solution. One of the main strengths of this textbook is its emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration and teamwork in engineering. Students learn about the importance of teamwork and collaboration when it comes to solving issues in mechanical engineering. The book has a strong emphasis on problem-solving skills, which it covers through numerous examples, illustrations, case studies and applications. In conclusion, Shigley’s Mechanical Engineering Design 11th Edition is an excellent reference for undergraduate mechanical engineering students who need to learn about design principles for machines, materials and environmental systems.
